2. Rest the sticks or sage in the abalone shell, using it to collect any ashes as the sticks burn.
3. Walk around a space with the sticks or sage, allowing the smoke to waft into the corners and ceilings of your space.
   
4. Abalone shells have holes in them, so ensure any hot ashes don’t fall through onto flammable materials such as carpet or bed linens.
5. If the smudging sticks have been resting in the abalone shell for a while, the shell may get hot, be careful when handling it.
