“If you wake up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance.” – Andrea Boydston
Every breath we take sustains life. It is our body’s way of interacting with the life forms around us, and the method in which we share prana with everyone in this cosmic universe.
What is Prana?
Prana is known as the “Vital Life Force” it is the energy that we find on all creations which sustains us to be able to perform our day to day activities. It is highly essential that we keep this thriving as lack of sustainable life force can be detrimental to our physical, mental and spiritual health.
Yogis refer to the practice of controlling one’s breath as “Pranayama” this method allows one to fully focus on the life energy and have it manifest throughout our body.
How Does Prana Affect Us?
Keeping in mind that Prana is a life force, lack of it can make us feel miserable, uninterested and dispassionate about life.
Picture this: You’re working a ten-hour job that you don’t even like, you feel suffocated by that overbearing boss, and after a long day, you get home to an absolute mess.
Being in this situation causes stress, and often, we find comfort on mundane things like the television. We do this to escape our reality instead of being present in the moment and working through the things we need to do.
This is where having sufficient Prana shows its importance. Channeling it invokes the realization of our connection with all that surrounds and knowing that the only thing we need for change to occur is within ourselves.
Here are a few tips on how we can invoke Prana:
Meditate- being in a quiet place within ourselves invites Prana to manifest within us. Breathe in the life force then breathe out the pent up worries we have inside with deep inhalation and exhalation from the lungs through the nostrils.
Positive Affirmations- there are two sides in every story or situation, choose to see the positive side and know that as grim as things look, this too shall pass.
Be Passionate- do something that you love and inspires you. You’ll find that being passionate about a cause or an activity helps you become more passionate about daily life.
Be in the moment- “Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself”. Focus on the now, be present in the moment. Worrying about something that hasn’t occurred yet will only bring up negative thoughts.
Show Compassion- treat others the way you want to be treated, the golden rule.
Channeling the ultimate life force can make a huge impact in our lives it can help us become a better version of ourselves to guide us on our journey to enlightenment.
